Tank Farm

More and more companies in the food industry store their chemical supplies in a cenral location. Various chemicals are stored in tanks in a separate room away from the production area. This type of storage has many advantages.

  • More economical prices for chemicals: Big potential savings can be realized because of the decline in small packaging, such as canisters and barrels. And, of course, the efficiencies offered by greater quantities delivered by tanker.
  • No labor effort needed for internal company transport of chemicals: Because of the elimination or, at least, the reduction in internal transportation of chemical containers
  • No contamination: The safety of the end product, i.e. food, is of vital importance. In every case, it must be protected from any kind of contamination with unwanted chemicals. The transfer of cleaning aids from the production area to closed chemical tank storage removes any source of danger from open chemical containers.
  • Increased safety of staff: Not only is safety for foodstuffs increased, but also staff safety. Many danger situations are removed because of the elimination of internal company transportation of chemicals, just as the danger of contact with chemicals linked with a change of chemical containers has been removed.
  • Safe, monitored metering devices: Storage always goes hand in hand with suitable measurement and control systems and corresponding metering devices. A higher metering precision can be achieved when there are long feed routes by using a fill level monitored tank, holding a day’s supply of chemicals housed in a sealed metering unit directly at the point of application.

Small vessels, such as containers, barrels and canisters, are stored in the central tank storage area, and the chemicals are conveyed and pumped using suitable metering pumps. For storing conventional chemical containers, suitable drip receptacles must be used.

For safe storage of chemicals in tanks, tested, chemical-resistant materials must be used. Storage tanks must stand in bunds, that are of adequate size so that, should there be an accident or emergency, the bund is able to accept the entire volume of fluid. The bund must also be made from tested, chemical-resistant materials.

The tanks are fitted with fill level monitors in addition to the obligatory overflow safeguards and leakage sensors. Depending on requirement these can be designed as a simple cable level indicator with bi-stable contacts or as ultrasound sensors.

For tank storage ProMinent offers the following products and systems:

  • Storage tanks to WHG (German Water Act) standards fully fitted with overflow safeguards, leakage sensors, level monitoring and drip tanks
  • Standard metering containers including drip trays
  • Chemicals transfer pumps
  • Metering pumps
  • Complete metering systems

Besides, we offer complete systems, including fitting and pipe work on site.
